Funding Allocated by RI General Assembly Towards Statewide Coordinating Main Street Program!

The Rhode Island legislative session concluded on Friday with some exciting news for Main Street RI – the Rhode Island General Assembly allocated $125,000 for the next fiscal year to support Grow Smart RI’s Statewide Coordinating Main Street program!

This allows us to take another step forward, expanding and building on the programs we’ve already begun, and to further develop supports for RI’s walkable commercial districts and the people who are working to make them active and vibrant places.

Special thanks to the House sponsor of the bill, Representative Art Handy and to Representative Terri Cortvriend for all of her help. Extra special thanks to the Senate sponsor of the bill, Senator Lori Urso, whose leadership on this issue was essential to its success. And thank you to Senate President Valarie Lawson and to House Speaker Joseph Shekarchi for recognizing how a state Main Street program can contribute to local economic development.
