Share Your Rhody Love

Rhody Love Notes is a collective mapping project that builds community around beloved places and spaces hidden across Rhode Island.

As we find ourselves facing upheaval and uncertainty on a national level, it’s all the more important that we connect to each other on a local level, strengthening our bonds to the places at the heart of what makes Rhode Island such a special home to us all. By inviting the public to write, share, and explore Notes dedicated to the places and spaces they love, Rhody Love Notes seeks to celebrate our State’s magic and soul, and foster connections, belonging, curiosity, and local pride. Because there’s a lot to love here in RI!

Beloved places are hidden around every corner in Rhode Island. Help us grow our map of Rhody love by writing a Love Note (or two, or three!) dedicated to a place in Little Rhody that holds a special place in your heart. Using the map below and the hashtag #rhodylovenotes on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or BlueSky you can view your Love Note(s) and explore the ever-growing collection of Love Notes submitted by our community. Discover new places and welcome others to the places that are special to you.

Does this project and some of the love notes look familiar to you? That’s because you’ve seen it before previously at Doors Open RI. We’re excited to give this project a new and long-lasting home here at Grow Smart RI. LOVE THIS? Share that love with Grow Smart RI with a DONATION today.

Dear Atlantic Mills:

When I first moved here as a big city girl, I wasn’t so sure about little old Rhode Island. But then one day I turned onto Manton Ave and found myself beneath your shadow, Atlantic Mills, and I fell in love. Gazing up at your towers I thought that perhaps I could find a future in this place after all.

I so admire your strong bones and unbeatable attitude. Hurricanes have taken bites out of you, and floods from the Woonasquatucket River have tried to wash you away. Birds find comfort inside the gaping holes in your roof, and rain and snow leave the insides of your towers wet and cold. Yet, you’re a survivor. You remind me of an old and badly beaten wrestler, still standing despite everything. And I’m so glad for it because you’re beautiful.

I love the care that was taken in laying your bricks so carefully to form the cylindrical curves of your towers, the interiors of which are rich with texture and history (even if that history isn’t all so pretty). You, your towers, and long cavernous hallways have such a story to tell, and you’re still writing it. Keep fighting Atlantic Mills. I love you.

Yours Truly,

Caroline

A love note to the King Street Streetscape
#mainstreetri

Photographs do not do it justice; the King Street Streetscape is one of the best views in all of Rhode Island. Where else can you find quintessential New England architecture, a historic train bridge/tunnel, and sailboat masts in the distance? King street left an impression on me the first time I visited East Greenwich and is one of the main reasons we moved to the Hill & Harbor neighborhood, one of the most beautiful places in the state.

Okay all you Main Street friends! Tell us what you love about your Main Street! Tag @growsmartri and use #rhodylovenotes and we'll share!

Love Note to RISD Nature Lab Basement Windows

I used to stop here on my way home every day to say good night to the jelly fish (and take a break halfway up College Hill!). They glow blue in the lights at night!
